Life On Mars 03:42
It's a God-awful small affair To the girl with the mousy hair But her mummy is yelling, "No" And her daddy has told her to go But her friend is nowhere to be seen Now she walks through her sunken dream To the seat with the clearest view And she's hooked to the silver screen But the film is a saddening bore For she's lived it ten times or more She could spit in the eyes of fools As they ask her to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man, look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars? It's on America's tortured brow That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow Now the workers have struck for fame 'Cause Lennon's on sale again See the mice in their million hordes From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads Rule Britannia is out of bounds To my mother, my dog, and clowns But the film is a saddening bore 'Cause I wrote it ten times or more It's about to be writ again As I ask you to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man, look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show Is there life on Mars?

One and one-half wandering Jews Free to wander wherever they choose Are traveling together In the Sangre de Christo The Blood of Christ Mountains of New Mexico On the last leg of a journey They started a long time ago The arc of a love affair Rainbows in the high desert air Mountain passes Slipping into stones Hearts and bones Hearts and bones Hearts and bones Thinking back to the season before Looking back through the cracks in the door Two people were married The act was outrageous The bride was contagious She burned like a bride These events may have had some effect On the man with the girl by his side The arc of a love affair His hands rolling down her hair Love like lightning shaking till it moans Hearts and bones Hearts and bones Hearts and bones And whoa whoa whoa She said why? Why don't we drive through the night And we'll wake up down in Mexico Oh I I don't know nothin' about nothin' About no Mexico And tell me why Why won't you love me For who I am Where I am He said 'Cause that's not the way the world is baby This is how I love you baby This is how I love you baby One and one-half wandering Jews Returned to their natural coasts To resume old acquaintances Step out occasionally And speculate who had been damaged the most Easy time will determine if these consolations Will be their reward The arc of a love affair Waiting to be restored Take two bodies and twirl them into one They're hearts and they're bones And they won't come undone Hearts and bones Hearts and bones Hearts and bones Hearts and bones

Hungry Heart 03:31
Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack I went out for a ride and I never went back Like a river that don't know where it's flowing I took a wrong turn and I just kept going Everybody's got a hungry heart Everybody's got a hungry heart Lay down your money and you play your part Everybody's got a h-h-hungry heart I met her in a little Kingstown bar We fell in love, I knew it had to end We took what we had and we ripped it apart Now here I am down in Kingstown again Everybody's got a hungry heart Everybody's got a hungry heart Lay down your money and you play your part Everybody's got a h-h-hungry heart Everybody needs a place to rest Everybody wants to have a home Don't make no difference what nobody says Ain't nobody wants to be alone Everybody's got a hungry heart Everybody's got a hungry heart Lay down your money and you play your part Everybody's got a h-h-hungry heart

I'm getting older, I think I'm aging well I wish someone had told me I'd be doing this by myself There's reasons that I'm thankful, there's a lot I'm grateful for But it's different when a stranger's always waiting at your door Which is ironic 'cause the strangers seem to want me more Than anyone before (anyone before, doo doo doo...) Too bad they're usually deranged Last week, I realized I crave pity When I retell a story, I make everything sound worse Can't shake the feeling that I'm just bad at healing And maybe that's the reason every sentence sounds rehearsed Which is ironic because when I wasn't honest, I was still being ignored (Lying for attention just to get neglection) Now we're estranged Things I once enjoyed (ooo) Just keep me employed now Things I'm longing for (ooo) Someday, I'll be bored of It's so weird That we care so much until we don't I'm getting older, I've got more on my shoulders But I'm getting better at admitting when I'm wrong I'm happier than ever, at least that's my endeavor To keep myself together and prioritize my pleasure 'Cause to be honest, I just wish that what I promise Would depend on what I'm given (not on his permission) (Wasn't my decision) to be abused Things I once enjoyed (ooo) Just keep me employed now Things I'm longing for, (ooo) Someday, I'll be bored of It's so weird That we care so much until we don't But next week, I hope I'm somewhere laughing For anybody asking, I promise I'll be fine I've had some trauma, did things I didn't wanna Was too afraid to tell ya, but now, I think it's time

Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got Not much of a girlfriend, never seem to get a lot Take a jumbo across the water, like to see America See the girls in California, I'm hopin' it's going to come true But there's not a lot I can do Could we have kippers for breakfast, mummy dear, mummy dear They got to have 'em in Texas, 'cause everyone's a millionaire I'm a winner, I'm a sinner, do you want my autograph I'm a loser, what a joker, I'm playing my jokes upon you While there's nothin' better to do na na na na na na na na Don't you look at my girlfriend (girlfriend), she's the only one I got Not much of a girlf (g-g-girlfriend), never seem to get a lot Take a jumbo cross the water, like to see America See the girls in California, I'm hoping it's going to come true But there's not a lot I can do Hey

I Get a Kick 02:36
I get a kick and a quiver inside When the warden walks by Everytime she walks by But love is a trick and a terrible lie I wish I wasn't inside I been too long inside You would never know it 'cause I'm too afraid to show it But I want you We could be in love but I'm always wearing cuffs When I'm around you Your summer dress, it provides my inspiration For ending my incarceration I wanna meet with you outside But I'm such a mess, I deviated from the norm You give me reason to reform And lose this uniform You're not the kind of bird that'd ever wanna hang around in my tree I don't got the gumption to be makin' the assumption That you want me I want you and me to take a stroll But I just found out I'm never gonna make parole But you could slip me the key Sneak me in your pouch and set me free It would not be wholesome, we could play like we're in Folsom I could please ya I'll be Charlie Parker and together we could play Night in Tunisia 'Cause I get a kick I get a kick I get a kick

There's a story told of a very gentle boy And the girl who wore his ring Through the wintery snow The world they knew was one For their hearts were full of spring As the days grew old And the nights passed into time And the weeks and years took wind Gentle boy, tender girl Their love remained still young For their hearts were full of spring Then one day they died And their graves were side by side On a hill where robins sing And they say violets Grow there the whole year round For their hearts were full of spring

about

Wonderly, the pan-dimensional Portland harmony and orchestral duo perhaps best known for the New York Times “Daily” Theme and a handful of critically acclaimed original albums of harmony-driven, original material and independent film soundtracks, has recorded a pure, duo- performance covers album. While one might expect their focus to be folk-driven, the duo casts a wide net, from Bowie to Billie (Eilish!). Taking unexpected turns aplenty, the album sees the duo branching out into a Tuba- and Viola-driven klezmer-inspired version of Supertramp’s Breakfast in America, a banjo- and melodica-based funk-up of Thelonious Monk’s “Well You Needn’t” and they even touch on a few of their favorite, underplayed (and overplayed) Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen tunes. It’s unexpected, and you’ll never hear any of these songs the same way again. As always, harmony and musical prowess are in the drivers seat, with humor riding shotgun (even the name of the collection is a sly pun on stealing inspiration from the music of others).
